This schedule is tentative, incomplete and subject to change. The western railroads have had quite a tough time this year with extensive flooding, landslides and record-setting snows. Special passenger trains are not high on their list! The Information below is subject to change, of course.

AAPRCO SPECIAL TRAIN
CHICAGO-KANSAS CITY

MAY 18-21, 2017

The Spring AAPRCO meeting will be in Kansas City May. 19&20 with a special train operating from Chicago via the UP (ex-C&NW) to Nevada, IA, thence to Kansas City on the former Rock Island. Returning on regular Amtrak service.

Trip Plan:
May 18: Lv. Chicago 0700; Arr. Kansas City 1800.
May 19/20: Meetings in Kansas City. Location and lodging to be determined. May 19/20: Meetings in Kansas City. Location and lodging to be determined.

Fares:
Dome seat: Chicago-Kansas City $695; Kansas City-Chicago (via St. Louis) $495. Continental breakfast and lunch included outbound, also includes supper returning. Caritas provides sleeping accommodations: $1,295 per person/double occupancy round-trip Chicago-Chicago. May be occupied in Kansas City. En route meals and open bar.

Anniversary Trips with the 261

MAY 31-JUNE 4, 2017

Join us for five days of steam railroading, puttering around eastern North Dakota. These short trips over former NP and GN branch lines behind ex-CMStP&P steam engine 261. The Caritas will be going along and will accommodate 6 passengers for the entire period. Passenger pickup at either the Fargo airport or Amtrak station is included.

Trip Plan:
May 31: Breckenridge to Colfax and return; then to Davenport to overnight.
June 1: Sunset ride Davenport o Lisbon and return. June 2: Two additional Davenport to Lisbon round trips. Then to Breckenridge. June 3: Breckenridge to Kendrick and return. Dinner trip Wahpeton to Milnor and return. June 4: Wahpeton to Milnor and return.

Fares:
$1695/per person double occupancy. On board meals and open bar.

4449 trip to
Portland Bend

JUNE 24/25, 2017

Two Iowa Pacific ex-Santa Fe “Big Domes” and the Caritas will be going west for this trip. The Caritas is not on the 4449 special, but will be parked in the Portland station available for occupancy. So if you are going on the 4449 excursion, you should consider riding out and back with us. We also encourage those in need of a “train fix” to ride out or back with us.

Trip Plan:
June 20: 2:15PM lv. Chicago on Amtrak #7; pick up Caritas in MSP.
June 22: Arrive Portland. June 24-25: 4449 steam excursion to Bend. June 26: Cars leave Portland on Amtrak #28. June 28: Arrive Chicago 3:55PM on Amtrak #8.

Fares(One Way):
Dome seat only $750. “Picnic class” meals and bar. Alternatively, sleeping accommodations on Caritas (per person, double occupancy) $1,995. Meals and open bar. Round-trip fare: 150% of the one-way fare.

AAPRCO ANNUAL CONVENTION
IN BURLINGTON, VT

SEPT. 14-22, 2017

The AAPRCO special will start in Albany, NY, then go to Utica for a trip on the Adirondack RR. Then ita to Saratoga for two days. Subsequently up the former D&H main line to Plattsburg. Here the power will be reversed and the special will proceed back to Whitehall, then east to Rutland, Vt. The next day takes us to Burlington on the former Rutland RR main line where we will park for three days for convention activities. Finally on Sep’t. 22 we head south through Rutland and Bennington to Hoosac Jct.. Where we turn west on the former B&M main line and back to Albany.
